Why a reverse osmosis filtration system is a good investment.
Although drinking water in some countries is considered safe, there are still several good reasons to use a reverse osmosis (RO) water filtration system at home:
🔹 1. Extra security against contamination
Water often comes from lakes and rivers and can contain traces of chlorine, aluminum, microplastics, heavy metals, pesticides and bacteria that municipal treatment does not always remove 100%.
An RO system removes up to 99% of all impurities, including the microscopic particles that regular carbon filters cannot remove.
🔹 2. Stable quality regardless of the water source
Even the best municipal water can vary in quality after heavy rain, flooding, repair work or old pipes in the building.
With a reverse osmosis filter, you get the same clean water every day, regardless of what is happening in the water supply.
🔹 3. Better taste and smell
RO systems remove chlorine, sulfur and metallic tastes, and provide a fresh, neutral taste that both coffee, tea and cooking benefit from. Many people find that their drinking water tastes “like in the mountains”.
🔹 4. Health benefits
Even small amounts of heavy metals (such as lead, copper, arsenic and cadmium) can be harmful over time, especially for children.
An RO filter ensures that you reduce long-term exposure to such substances to a minimum.
🔹 5. Less plastic use and lower costs
With filtered tap water, you don’t have to buy bottled water. It saves both money and the environment:
– One family can save over 3000–5000 NOK a year by ditching bottled water.
– You reduce plastic waste by several hundred bottles a year.
🔹 6. Perfect for aquariums, coffee and ice machines
RO water is almost completely free of minerals and is particularly suitable for appliances that otherwise get limescale deposits.
It extends the life of coffee machines, kettles and steam irons – and provides crystal-clear ice.
Briefly explained: How reverse osmosis works
The water is pressed through a semi-permeable membrane that only lets water molecules through.
Everything else – heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, chemicals and microplastics – is washed away down the drain.
The result is almost laboratory-quality water straight from the tap.
An investment in health, safety and taste
Even if the drinking water where you live should be of a high standard, a reverse osmosis system is a long-term investment in your health and the well-being of your family. You have full control over the quality of your water, no matter what happens in the water supply – and you don’t have to blindly rely on old pipes or random sampling.
